In most cases this is all you need to do, the controls and menus within the browser are self explanatory. Before you start, it is worth taking a few moments to check through the points below, especially the ones regarding safety. If you have any problems, carefully read the points listed below and check the documentation that came with your computer (especially any section that covers using multimedia CD-ROMs).
There are certain graphic effects which only work if the computer monitor display is running with a specific setting. This product is best viewed in 8-bit (256 colors). The program will test your monitor and make the necessary adjustments to your display. This happens seamlessly on a Mac but unfortunately the process of changing the monitor display setting with a computer running Windows means the computer has to be restarted. This is done automatically by the program.
Most of the other files and folders on the CD-ROM are used by the browser and are not intended to be opened directly by the user. The exceptions to this are QuickTime installers (see below), read me files (such as this one) and the CD Xtra folder.
Computer...
We recommend that you check your computer's specification against the minimum requirements listed below.
o Macintosh minimum requirements
68040 or Power Macintosh™/PowerPC™, System 7.1 and above, mouse, 13" monitor (256 colours), QuickTime™ 2.5 or later plus Apple Media Tuner™ (supplied on disc), 8Mb free RAM, CD-ROM drive (double speed or better necessary).
o Windows PC minimum requirements
486/90 MHz, Pentium®, 8 Megabytes of RAM, Windows™ 3.1 with DOS 5.0® (or later), Windows™ for workgroups 3.1 and Windows 95® all with 8 megabytes of free RAM, Microsoft® compatible Mouse, Sound card and 13'' VGA colour monitor, Quicktime® 2.1.1 or later (supplied on disc), CD-ROM drive (double speed or better).
Safety...
o This CD-ROM has been carefully tested on a number of different multimedia computers. However, due to the enormous variety of hardware and software combinations, you should be aware that any new software can cause problems.
o In common with other software manufacturers, we suggest that you regularly backup your files and other software to a safe place (preferably removable media such as floppy disks).
o With the exception of screensavers and QuickTime™, this CD-ROM does not install any additional software to your computer. This ensures that the possibility of software conflicts is kept to the minimum.
QuickTime...
o QuickTime™ is a standard system software component that enables the viewing of video on screen. If you do not have QuickTime™, the multimedia browser on this CD-ROM will detect this and notify you. You can use the QuickTime™ Installer provided on this CD-ROM to install the necessary software components.
o Even if you already have QuickTime™ installed on your system, you can run the QuickTime™Installer provided on this CD-ROM to ensure that you have the latest version.
o Locate the QuickTime™ Installer folder on the CD-ROM, then double-click to open it. Double-click
on the Install QuickTime™ icon, then follow the instructions that appear on your screen
Performance...
o Performance is best if the computer monitor display is running with a specific setting. This product is best viewed in 8-bit (256 colors).
o A slow CD-ROM drive will impair performance, especially when viewing video. The only solution is to upgrade your CD-ROM drive to a faster/newer model.
o Likewise, a slow processor will impair performance. Check the points below, otherwise the only solution is to upgrade to a faster processor or faster computer.
o The amount of RAM available will also affect performance. Installing additional RAM is usually the cheapest way of improving your computer's performance and will benefit all the software you use.
o Even though your computer appears to meet our specification, the performance may be poor. This can result from a number of factors including network activity, other applications running in the background, an open connection to the internet etc. Most problems can be cleared by quitting other
applications and restarting your computer, before using this CD-ROM.
o On a PC, audio is dependent on the sound card you have fitted. Sound cards can vary in performance and stability and are further affected by the settings and quality of your external speakers. If you encounter problems, consult the documentation which came with your sound card/computer.
